La Salsa may be the name of a Cuban dance which is growing increasingly popular in Hanoi but it is also the name of a charming restaurant on Nha Tho Street. Serving both French and Spanish food, the restaurant is a firm favourite with the expatriate community of Hanoi.

As its name suggests, the restaurant features has a tasteful, warm and bright Spanish decor with red lampshades and pictures of vibrant bullfights decorating different coloured walls of pink, yellow and green. Wooden floors and comfortable wooden and wrought iron furniture complete the atmosphere. The upstairs is airy and elegantly decorated with silk drapes and offers a beautiful balcony to sit and take in the scenes of one of the quaintest streets in Hanoi with excellent views of the cathedral.

The ground floor with comfortable sofas and a bar is the perfect place to meet friends, play cards and watch international football matches. For a more romantic night out, reserving a table on the balcony outside is highly recommended.

Antoine, the owner of the restaurant who has been working in Vietnam for nine years in the food and beverage industry, recommends the paella, a speciality Spanish dish. Paella (VND120,000) is a seafood dish which is best washed down with Sangria, red wine mixed with fruit (VND45,000/glass) which compliments the squid and other flavours of this rice based dish perfectly.

The menu features French classics such as White Bean with Duck and Sausage and Lentils (VND120,000). La Salsa is also famous for Foie Gras, particularly served in the autumn and winter, steaks - strip loin (VND160,000), tenderloin (VND210,000) and ribs (VND690,000) for a serving for two to three people. La Salsa currently offers 24 different types of tapas, a traditional Spanish food with prices ranging from VND20,000 to VND45,000. There is a wide collection of wine from France, Spain, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.

To further enjoy the range of food offered the restaurant has just introduced a new lunch menu. Priced at VND95,000, the menu offers three options for two courses either a starter and main course or a main course and dessert.
