The empire behind two of Hanoi’s best-known Indian Restaurants, Tandoor and Dakshin, has expanded into the West Lake area with the new Indian Palace restaurant on Xuan Dieu Street.

Set in a modern Vietnamese house overlooking West Lake, Indian Palace is decorated in Indian style, with prominent domes and pillars and a large skylight set above the stairs to let the sun filter into the spacious restaurant.

The three-storey Indian Palace offers both smoking and non-smoking sections on the first floor, as well as a private terrace at the back of the restaurant where you can book a table to enjoy lush garden surroundings and a view of the small lake behind the restaurant.

But if it's a cozy atmosphere you're after, head for the second floor where you can enjoy a meal with friends surrounded by the restaurant's traditional decor. Both the first and second floors have balconies with magnificent views of the capital's peaceful West Lake, while the third floor offers a bar with city views.

Indian Palace serves a range of excellent vegetarian dishes; alongside traditional Indian favourites included char grilled marinated fish ($7), chicken kebabs ($5.50) and naan ($1 to $2).

Indian Palace is currently offering a Friday buffet on the terrace featuring 15 to 20 tempting dishes for just $10.
